Is tar and chip the same as asphalt paving?
No. Tar and chip, also called chip seal or oil and stone, places aggregate over an emulsion treatment. Hot-mix asphalt is a compacted pavement layer ordered by weight.
What should contractor quotes include?
Compare quotes with the same number of chip applications, aggregate, emulsion, base repairs, grading, drainage, edge work, mobilization, and cleanup.
Does the estimate include excavation or a new base?
Only if your local per-square-foot rates include that work. The calculator does not add excavation, base replacement, drainage, or unusual access costs on its own.
